Mad Teddy's web-pages
This is a zoom-up of a sizeable "bump" just a little bit "north" of
"north-west" on the main body of the Mandelbrot set. When I started doing
M-set graphics on my Commodore 64 in late 1985, this was one of the first
regions which seemed to call to me to explore it.
You can see the relevant area indicated by a small white box in the
following picture:
It contains a number of interesting features, and doesn't take too long to
plot. I used an iteration limit of 1,000 which is quite adequate. (My
original C64 version only used 100 for the limit and took ages - but was
quite a thrill to see. Well worth the wait!)
The same colours are used again. I didn't start playing around with that
aspect until the next graphic in this collection. Again, you'll see that
they're used a bit differently than in each of the previous pictures.
You can download and save a copy of the BASIC source-code for the 640 x 480
version by right-clicking
here.
The next picture involves zooming up on a little tree-like structure about a
third of the way down and just a little to the right of centre horizontally.
Back in 1985, it became - and remains to this day - my favourite bit of the
M-set.
In some of the later graphics, we'll return to this one and zoom up on some
of the other features in the top half of the picture.
