This region is a blow-up of part of one of the "compound eyes" within the
spiral illustrated in the previous two pages (Regions #8 and #9).
You can see the relevant area indicated by a small white box in the
following picture of Region #9:

It occurred to me that this would look more life-like if the centre of the
eye (the pupil) were darker in colour than its immediate surrounds (the
iris); so I used a graphic editor to produce this colour negative:
